 1.         Open the battery compartment cover.2.         Insert 2 “AAA” batteries observing the correct polarity(+)and (-)as indicated.3.                  Replace the battery compartment cover.  QUICK SET UP:
  1. Once the batteries are in place, all segments of the LCD will light up. Then the indoor temperature, the time as 12:00, the date as 1.1., and weekday will be displayed.
IMPORTANT: If the indoor temperature is not displayed after a few seconds, remove the batteries and wait for at least 30 seconds before reinserting them.
  1. The clock automatically will begin to search for the WWVB time signal. All other buttons are disabled during this search. After the tower icon stops flashing on the display (approximately 5 minutes), you can se the time zone. You can stop this auto reception by pressing the wave zone button. The default time zone is Pacific Standard Time (PST). If you live in the Pacific Time zone move to step 4.
  2. To set the time zone:
    • Push the “Wave Zone” function button and release.
    • Push the Wave Zone function button again to change the time zone setting to the desired time zone.
EST (Eastern Time Zone)CST (Central Time Zone)MST (Mountain Time Zone)PST (Pacific Time Zone)
  1. The WWVB time code reception will automatically start for 5 minutes when batteries are placed in the clock. It will automatically set itself to the exact time, day and date after receipt of the WWVB time code reception. This typically takes overnight. If you need to stop this initial searching session, press the wave zone button. For best reception place our clock next to a window facing Colorado overnight. Once a successful reception is received, relocate your clock to a desired location.

Once the batteries are inserted, all the segments will light up displaying the information for time, date, day, and indoor temperatures.

WWVB RADIO CONTROLLED TIME

The NIST radio station, WWVB, is located in FI. Collins, Colorado and transmits the exact time signal continuously throughout the United States at 60 kHz. The signal can be received up to 2,000 miles away through the internal antenna in the Atomic Clock. However, due to the nature of the Earth's Ionosphere, reception is very limited during daylight hours. The Atomic Clock will search for a signal every night when reception is best. The WWVB radio station derives its signal from the NIST Atomic clock in Boulder, Colorado. A team of atomic physicists continually measures every second of every day to an accuracy of ten billionths of a second a day. These physicists have created an international standard, measuring a second as 9,192,631,770 vibrations of a Cesium 133 atom in a vacuum. This Atomic Clock regulates the WWVB transmitter.  Once the batteries are placed in the battery compartment, the WWVB tower icon in the clock display will start flashing on the display. This indicates that the clock has detected a radio signal and is trying to receive it. When the time code is received, the WWVB tower becomes static on the display. If the tower icon flashes, but does not set the; time and date, then please take note of the following:
  • Recommended distance to any interfering sources like computer monitors or TV sets is a minimum of 6 feet (2 meters).
  • Within ferro-concrete rooms (basements, superstructures), the received signal is naturally weakened. In extreme cases, please place the unit close to a window and or point its front or back towards the Fort Collins, Colorado transmitter.
  • During nighttime, the atmospheric disturbances are usually less severe and reception is possible in most cases. A single daily reception is adequate to keep the accuracy deviation below 1 second.
Note:In case the Atomic Alarm Clock is not able to detect the WWVB-signal (disturbances, transmitting distance, etc.), the time can be manually set (please refer to notes on Manual time setting).

MANUAL SETTINGS

Note: Solid Tower Icon indicates a positive reception of the signal. If the Atomic Alarm Clock has already successfully received the WWVB time signal and displays the correct time and date, then the Manual settings can be omitted. After completion of the above described procedures in “Setting up” to “Quick set up,” manual settings can be entered. The following settings can now be programmed:
  • Manual time setting
  • Month setting
  • Date Setting
  • Year setting thru 2099
  • DST On (D--T) or Off (S--T)
  • 12/24 hour time display setting
  • °C or °F temperature setting
During reception attempts the WWVB tower icon will flash.WWVB time reception takes place at 4:00 AM If the unit cannot receive the WWVB signal successfully, it will start again at 5:00 AM. The other times WWVB reception takes place, are during setup and after pressing the Zone Wave button for 3 seconds until you hear a beep. The Tower Icon will appear to indicate the clock is searching for the signal. The clock will search for 5 minutes. Reception is generally not possible during daylight hours due to the interference of the sun.

DST-TIME-CALENDAR SETTING

In case the Atomic Alarm Clock is not able to detect the WWVB-signal (disturbances, transmitting distance, etc.), the time can be manually set. The clock will then work as a normal Quartz clock. 1.         At normal time mode, push the "Time Set " button for 2 seconds and release when you hear a beep. D- -T will blink on the display indicating DST is on. To change to standard time (DST off),press either arrow key and S--T will appear.2.         Press Time Set again to change the Hour by pressing the arrow key.3.         Press Time Set again to change the Minute by pressing the arrow key.4.         Press Time Set again to change the Year by pressing the arrow key.5.         Press Time Set again to change the Month by pressing the arrow key.6.         Press Time Set again to change the Date by pressing the arrow key.Note: The unit will still try and receive the signal every day despite it being manually set. When it does receive the signal, it will change the manually set time into the received time. DST SETTING (daylight saving time)1.         Press the Time Set for 2 seconds until you hear a beep then release. D- -T will blink on the display indicating that this function is ON. To change this to Standard Time (DST OFF), press either arrow key when D—T is blinking and the display will show S--T blinking to indicate that DST is off. The blinking will stop in one minute saving the last DST setting.  Note:The DST default is “ON,” meaning that the WWVB will automatically change the time according to Daylight Saving Time in the spring and fall. For areas that do not recognize DST changes (Arizona and parts of Indiana) turn the DST “OFF.”
