SkyScan Atomic Clock Model 88825 Instruction Manual Congratulations on purchasing the jumbo LCD wall clock. The utmost care has gone into the design and manufacture of your clock. Please read these instructions carefully and store them in a safe place for future reference. FEATURES • Precise Atomic Time display • Four separate time zones: Eastern, Central, Mountain or Pacific • Calendar shows Month, Day & Date • Temperature shows in OF or OC • Alarm clock and snooze function • Displays time in 12 or 24 hour format • Daylight Saving Time function (DST) • Indoor temperature
BATTERY INSERTION / REPLACEMENT • Remove the battery compartment cover on the back of the clock. • Insert three “AA” batteries into the battery compartment. Make sure the polarity is correct by following the (+ or -) symbols engraved inside. • Do not mix old and new batteries or batteries of different brands.
RECEIVING RADIO SIGNALS AUTOMATICALLY • After inserting the batteries, the display will be activated, but the clock will not operate or set for the first four minutes. During this time, it will automatically search for the WWVB time signal, and the antenna icon will flash. • While the clock is searching for the WWVB time signal, the “WAVE/+” button can be pressed to stop the search for the WWVB time signal. • If the WWVB signal has been received successfully, the antenna icon will display continuously and the display will show the default time, date, and weekday.
STARTING THE SIGNAL SEARCH MANUALLY In normal time display mode, you can also manually start the reception of the WWVB time signal any time: Press and hold the “WAVE/+” button for 2 seconds. The antenna icon flashes until the clock has successfully received the WWVB time signal and a solid antenna icon will displays on the LCD screen. NOTE: During the search for the WWVB time signal, the setting function will not operate! This is normal and not a defect in your clock.
RADIO CONTROL FEATURE The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is located in Fort Collins, Colorado. The NIST continuously broadcasts the time signal (WWVB, 60KHz) which can be received anywhere in the continental United States where long wave (AM) radio reception is possible. The signal can reach approximately 2,000 miles through the internal antenna in the SkyScan Atomic Clock. However, due to the nature of the Earth’s atmosphere, reception is very limited during the daylight hours. The clock will search for a signal every night when reception is best.
POSSIBLE RECEPTION-INTERFERING SOURCES All radio-controlled clocks may be subject to certain interferences. Interferences can be caused for example by a thunderstorm or metallic elements in buildings (such as windows with a metal frame). Domestic appliances and PCs, can interfere with the reception. If you are in a location where it is difficult to receive the signal, the clock can be set manually and then it will automatically update to the correct atomic time when it receives the signal. Normally, signal reception is best at night. If the signal is not received in the first four minutes, it is recommended you set the time manually and wait for the clock to catch the signal at night. Once the time is set (either automatically or manually), the clock will seek out the radio signal daily to keep its accuracy. RADIO CONTROL TIME UPDATE • The clock receives the WWVB time signal via its built-in antenna and adjusts automatically. Once the correct time is set, the clock will run with an internal quartz-controlled mechanism. • The reception system of the clock daily for the WWVB signal at 2:00 a.m. If no signal is received within 4 minutes, the system will automatically search again at 3:00 a.m., 4:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. • The internal quartz-mechanism is very accurate; therefore it does not matter if the clock is occasionally unable to receive the time signals.
NORMAL OPERATION • Press and hold “DST/-” button for 2 seconds to turn on or turn off the Daylight-saving time (DST) function. Unless you live in an area that never recognizes daylight-saving time, such as Arizona, the DST function should always be turned on. • Press and hold “OC/OF” button for 2 seconds to choose Celsius or Fahrenheit format for temperature. • Press “SET” button to choose normal time or alarm time display. In the alarm time display, it will return to normal time display after 20 seconds if no buttons are pressed.
TIME AND CALENDAR SETTING • At normal time mode, push and hold the “SET” button for 2 seconds to enter the time display format mode. • Press the “WAVE/+” or “DST/-” button to choose 12Hr or 24Hr. The default time display format is 12Hr. • Press the “SET” button once to confirm and enter the time set mode. The digit hour will flash. • Press “WAVE/+” or “DST/-” button to set the desired hour. • Once the intended hour appears, press the “SET” button once to confirm and the minute will flash. • Press “WAVE/+” or “DST/-” button to set the intended minute. • Once the intended minute appears, press “SET” button once to confirm and enter the setting calendar, The year flashes. • Press “WAVE/+” or “DST/-” button to set the correct year. • Once the intended year appears, press the “SET” button once to confirm and the month will flash. • Press “WAVE/+” or “DST/-” button to set the correct month. • Once the intended month appears, press “SET” button once to confirm and the date will flash. • Press “WAVE/+” or “DST/-” button to set the correct date. • Once the intended date appears, press the “SET” button once to confirm and exit from the setting mode.

Note: At the setting mode, if there isn't any operation within 20 seconds, it will exit from the setting mode automatically. Switching on/off the alarm • While in the alarm time mode, press “WAVE/+” or “DST/-” button to switch on/off the alarm. • If the alarm icon appears, it indicates that the alarm is activated. RANGE OF TEMPERATURE DETECTION The temperature detection range of this unit is 14 OF to 122 OF or –10 OC to +50 OC. When the indoor temperature is outside of this range: 122 OF ( +50 OC), it will display Hi; and below 14 OF (-10 OC), it will display Lo. Note: if “--” is displayed, it indicated that the temperature had not been detected. TABLE STANDING OR WALL MOUNTING Table-Standing:
